Markham Nature Area: Concord’s green heart


Markham Nature Park and Arboretum is a serene beauty that is fewer than 20 blocks from the center of Concord. It is a protected natural area with numerous native tree and plant species to California. A variety of pathways and marshes surround it. Families and individuals wishing to spend time outside will love this park. A pond in the park is also available for fishing and birdwatching. Along the Concord to Mt. Diablo Trail, it is a fantastic rest point.

With so many lovely parks and natural spaces to explore, Concord has become a popular destination for nature enthusiasts. There are many beautiful landscapes and historical sites in the neighborhood. San Francisco and the Napa Valley wine region may be reached in less than an hour by car. It also provides a wide range of leisure activities, including hiking, skiing, and flying excursions. It also has a large number of breweries.

On La Vista Avenue, you may find the 1980s-built Markham Nature Park and Arboretum. It is a sixteen-acre natural preserve that may be explored on foot, home to numerous international tree species. Galindo Creek, which flows through the park, is a feature. The Tree Walk is one of many pathways that can be explored. A small group of Concord residents who desired to build an arbor sanctuary on their property founded the Markham Regional Arboretum Society in 1981. The arboretum was established to give the general people a tranquil setting in which to appreciate nature. The arboretum also provides a variety of training programs and educational field trips.

In July 2002, the Bud Hansen Wisteria Arbor was inaugurated. It is close to the International Garden’s main entrance. Donations and the selling of engraved bricks helped to pay for it. The arbor is a shaded area that offers cover for neighborhood gatherings. When visiting the East Bay, make sure to visit the Town Park and Arboretum. It is a 9.5-mile walking trail bordered by blooming flowers and wide open spaces. It’s the ideal location for a stroll and picnic.

The park’s tree walk introduces 45 different tree species. Each plant is listed in great detail on the map at the end of the parking lot. It is an excellent location to see trees of many varieties, including those that are native to California and those that are imported from other countries.

Other places to visit in Concord include the Ruth Bancroft Garden, the Galindo House and Gardens, and the Lindsay Wildlife Museum. The town also boasts a diverse array of restaurants and bars. There are several shops in the town that sell local arts and crafts, as well as fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables. There are also several craft breweries to choose from, such as the E.J. Phair Brewing Company, which focuses on hearty pub fare.
